You dont need it but it will make things alot easier for you. I had two of them one next to the bed on the dresser and one I took with me on my travels for work so I could set it on the nightstand at the hotel. Come home, just set it on the mat and it charges. No plugging anything in. It also comes with a usb that plugs into the case so you can still use a car charger or the pc to charge it. The mat itself fully charges in about 30 minutes, its really quick.

These work great but I would recommend you just check Best Buy for a new one. Got one on clearance well over a year ago for this same price. This powermat charges pretty damn quick, the downside is having to use that crappy case.

Oh ok. They must have moved them all to CowBoom. I didnt check because they dont have many deals on new items at Cowboom. Then its a great deal for someone who plans on using an iphone 4/4s for awhile. It wont be compatible with anything but those 2 models unless you buy a large powermat.
