I received a $50 rebate from a 160GB Maxtor HDD from buy.com a while back without any problems.

I just had to fight with T-mobile for weeks for my MIR. I think I'll take a break for a while.

I have actually had pretty good experiences with MIR lately. It is a pain, but so long as you follow the directions, it can work out pretty well. So far I think I am 9/9 for this year on MIRs.

I'll admit that I haven't had any experience with buy.com's rebates, but TigerDirect and even NewEgg weren't very friendly. One was a third-party, and one was direct from manufacturer. No dice either way :(

I do not like to be bothered with mail in rebates. They are too much of a hassle and sometimes they do not even go through.

Everyone's so quick to bash mail in rebates. I've had tons from buy.com and have had no problems with them. This is a great deal.

I wish you luck with the MIR. I've had my experiences with them, and I'm not banking on them again.

With that sort of deal, I'm thinking about getting one... and I don't even have anything which uses Firewire.
