Q: Any ideas on which Metro PCS phones work with tethering the phone to the laptop?

Will I be able to tether a phone to my laptop without actually purchasing a plan for the phone?
I am currently on a month to month basis with Metro.

I am in a location which is a bit far from the wifi and I have a hit n miss with it. Sometimes, it works, sometimes it doesn't! I need to access the internet always, especially working on this site.

Please share with me if you know any phones for a cheap costs, and I can still be month to month, that I can tether with my laptop for easy access to the internet.

Yes, but currently do not have a Iphone.

OK, I ask because tethering will accrue lots of data usage. If using Android I recommend using PDA Net. Its an app that you can download and can tether without Rooting a device. If you root a device there are wireless tethering apps to use.

Go to http://www.xda-developers.com/ and find the device you have and that will guide to many questions you may have.

I will be happy to help too, XDA has many talented individuals that know tons about this stuff.

have you tried a wifi range extender or an old router with a dd-wrt firmware might do it, its a chep solution and you get better speed than tethering from a phone

its a 3rd party firmware that will let you bridge two routers or in your case extend your wifi. search on google ddwrt and it should tell you if you can install it on your router. keep in mind that this voids your router warranty if you don't think you can to do it i recommend buying one off ebay.

i forgot to ask you david since you live in florida and here some communities offer wifi are you talking about your own wifi or is a community or public wifi, if its provided by someone else then all you need is something in your end like an external antenna

The Miami wifi, RD995... sorry for not answering earlier.
It is a hit or miss with the city's wifi here...
What can I do?
Extended antenna for the house or the laptop?
