Hello everyone,

I know many of you love technology, and have played with too. Today I am planning to decide a good laptop based on your all experiences. I have played with vaio, Lenovo Y530 series, (not yet mac), Averatec, dell
but now its time for me to upgrade.

I still has lenovo 530, when the first IBM was taken by lenovo, i bought this. But now 2 GB ram with 300 GB harddrive is old stuff. Its been 4 years now. Still running good but the screen doesnt stand, either stays flat to floor or close the lid (donno how it broke).

I am eyeing, great ultrabook (Vaio or Lenovo my choices) with ssd, 1TB HD, 7th gen,, 8GB ram.....(too fancy??)
Son

I wanna hear from all your experiences. What laptop do you guys earn? Which might be best in your experience. May be model, price and years used would be very helpful for me.

Thanks in Advance.

get a mac pro and run boot camp. The screen is just so much better in terms of resolution and how crisp things look.

I ve had 5 Lenovos, 2 HPs, 1 Dell for work over the year. Had 2 cracked screens on Lenovo, 1 failed HD, 1 failed battery on HP, 1 failed fan on Dell. I have a Mac at home for personal use and it's night and day

I have heard most of the HP has either motherboard problem or screen problem.

Lenovo battery problem

Have never used ultrabook, or zenbook with better specs.

Havent thought about Mac yet, its costly for now.

There is your problem, you listen to what you heard from people who make up internet facts like most of them have this problem. HP doesnt manufacture motherboards, nor do they manufacture screens. Thats like saying I wouldnt buy an LG tv because I heard they get too many bad pixels but even so Ill by another tv brand unknowing that LG made the panel for that tv since they are one of the largest lcd panel manufacturers on the planet.

@acidbaby. You are right but HP would then assemble everything which is important because they choose what goes in there. When I build my own PCs, I use the best parts for the price. HP might or might not use the best parts. We know Vaio and Apple do on the most part, that's why they are so expensive in addition to price hikes from all the marketing. And there is also the issue of warranty. HP's warranty is not nearly as good as say Apple's.

Not true at all. Apple desktops and laptops are ODP manufactured primarily out of China and are no different than an HP, Toshiba, Sony, Samsung or any other laptop. Sony laptops are primarily manufactured by Quanta and ODM manufacturer who like most every other pc or laptop builds OEM systems minus a mobo, ram and hard drive which are then added in by the rebranded corporation.

but mobo, ram, hd, cpu are the primary components lol by OEM systems you mean the case, fan and PSU basically which doesn't really affect performance

Of course they are. Just pointing out neither Apple nor Sony are any different than any other manufacturer. Apple uses the exact same hardware such as Foxconn mobos, Fujitsu/Seagate/Hitachi hdds, and Hynix/Micron/Samsung memory all OEM built by those companies with Apples name on them just like HP, Sony, or everyone else uses. Sure there is different qualities out there. But your not paying for hardware when you buy a mac and everyone should know that.

@Acidbaby: Why is apple or vaio costlier than HP then?

Apple because like every Apple product your paying for their OS. Sony laptops are really not any more expensive than any other Windows based laptop with comparable specs. Why arent MSI laptops more? They are a quality hardware manufacturer and they build most all the hardware for their laptops.

@acidbaby you know they are different grades of hardware within any of the brands you just mentioned right? So getting a Caviar Green 7200rpm WD HD is not the same as getting a SSD or even a Caviar Black 7200rpm as the cache size is totally different. Obviously they will buy from these companies but what items you buy makes all the difference. Hence what I said, buying the best parts given the money. And on top of all of that, the whole package makes a different too, including customer service, warranty, airflow of the design, battery aging, etc, which then all depend on the laptop manufacturing

oh here's a good example. HP and Apple both using 1600mhz ram bought at the same time last year. HP buys their ram with 9-9-9-21/24 timing and apple buys their ram 7-7-7-20/21 timing. Needless to say which one runs smoother and faster. You can't say all the hardware in there are generically the same because it's coming from the same supplier

Im not saying that by any means. Obviously there are different grades of hardware or otherwise each manufacturer would only have 1 model of computer. But to say Apple simply buys better quality hardware in general isnt true. I mean I could just go order say a Falcon Northwest laptop for less money than a Macbook and that Macbook wouldnt touch it even though they still use the same suppliers for their hardware.

Yep, apple has a great quality that's why it's pricey than other laptops.
