I am currently looking to buy a puppy for my daughter. I have come across a few sites that have some breeds that I am interested in, but the price is anywhere from $1500 - $2000. The breeds I am looking for a small dogs (yorkie, maltese, etc) Any sites or help would be great! thanks!

I agree with arsiel - saving the life of an unwanted pet is the way to go! However - if you are looking for a pedigree dog (to breed or show) then ONLY go with a reputable breeder or someone that raises the dogs in their home... there are a lot of So Called "Breeders" that are running "Puppy Farms" which is SO WRONG! Make sure you are able to view the facilities as well as meet the mother dog and view the papers on the dog.

gangstabarbie - if that is her in your picture she is beautiful! I was telling my mom about her picture this morning and she asked me what kind of dog it was - now I can tell her. :)

Our dog was a 4H project. Not expensive for a Golden Retriever with papers. Those kids had done their research & he was commented on by many breeders.
That said, rescue if you can. A friend just posted this on FB...it's very touching.

@glwrks Thanks for sharing that. I wonder why they were going to put her down in the first place & I'm glad they shaved all her mangled hair off. I'm sure her new coat looks great.
Reminds me of this petition:
http://www.saveheidi.com/
It's about someone's Doberman who may be put down soon because of someone who approached her too quickly, causing her to defend herself. People are sometimes don't consider all aspects. No one would like a stranger running towards them.

I always say go to a shelter first.

But if you don't want to go to a shelter, go to a local breeder. You can go visit their facilities and see the treatment of the animals.

Thanks for your feedback guys! I was reading that National Adoption weekend is on the 18th, and a lot of stores are having adoption events.

@gangstabarbie your dog is so cute!

I used eBay classifieds. And also your local shelter.

Shelter first, or go to dog sell store.

My dog (see my picture) came from a shelter. He is a pure bread german shepherd. I got him when he was 2 1/2 and he was fully potty trained. Im extremely happy I decided to go to a shelter & definitely suggest checking out adopting before deciding to get a puppy

what ever you do, please don't get one from a pet store. Lots of pet stores get their pets from pet mills.

Animal shelters. Most pet stores contain dogs that they bought from puppy mills. (Puppy Farm) And most of those dogs contain different problems.

Breeder or a shelter. Im not going to sit here and say its wrong to get a puppy from a pet store like it is so politically correct to say these days. The reason being is someone needs to save those pets also. I understand you could be possibly supporting a puppy mill but at the same time we need to get those pets out of the puppy mills as well, not only shelters. ANYWHERE you can save a puppy from be it a breeder, shelter, puppy mill, foster family is helping that animal.

Avoid puppy mill dogs if possible, we have had a lot of trouble with ours, so save yourself the headache :)
