Q: What are the best ways to deal w/all your passwords?

Losing passwords is driving me nuts. Recommend an EASY, SECURE, cheap password manager? I've tried highly rated ones--too complicated...

I use one password for everything. Same password ive used to 15 years. If I need to edit it to fit a sites specific rules I simply add or delete a character.

make a spreadsheet with alll your account names and passwords. if you must, password protect that document with your go-to password. if you ever did forget your master password you would be screwed!

@Acidbaby: Of course, you know it's really bad practice to re-use passwords across different sites because one hacked site can grant access to your whole digital life. It happened to my niece just this past January. Once they got into her E-mail account, they were able to re-set the passwords on what few sites used a different variation. All her contacts, Facebook friends, etc. were hit with fake pleas for money to deal with an emergency. In the end, many of her compromised accounts were permanently closed and had to be started from scratch, including her Yahoo E-mail. She lost all her E-mail and contacts as well as her long-standing E-mail address when she reported the fraud to Yahoo.

If you can't help re-using passwords, at least have your E-mail password very different from what you use anywhere else, since your E-mail is where password reset links are going to go.

bbattag, is that a free one? think i tried it on a mac. couldn't get it to work. need to organize better, back-up computer more often! browsers can fill in most passwords ok, until crashes!

For Windows I use a commercial product called "Password Depot" and have not found a different password manager yet that I would replace it with. It has a password generator and will remember the web form if you wish to auto submit or you can drag and drop the credentials into the form. It can be installed and run from a USB storage device and can track a number of different attributes related to the site and credentials.
