Absolutely not. I had a good friend in school who after graduation started working at a mom and pop auto repair place. He was then hired by a dealership that sold Audi. The only one in the area. He bacame their premier (so the region's top) Audi mechanic. Later he went to work as the maintenance manager at another dealership. No he's the GM for one of that dealership's franchises. I have 5 years of higher education and his pay kicks the hell out of mine.

That said...it USUALLY helps. Not always, but usually.

It really depends on what field you want to go into... however more and more companies want to see that Piece of paper - some writing jobs online demand you have a degree. What is unfortunate is the amount of people that DO HAVE expensive degrees and can't get work in their fields and end up doing menial jobs just to make ends meet!

It depends, if you are going for academic it is a must, if you want your own business, you might not. But i do believe education makes you sharp and smart, and help in developing economy.

But for me i encourage all to go to college.

Many factors contribute to having a successful life. It depends on what you deem being successful is. Many people measure success differently.
IMO, having a college education is important but not necessarily will it make you successful.

If you are just talking about money then there are many other ways to make money than going to college though on average, a person with a college degree earns more than one without. I think the best reason to go to college is simply because you want to learn that subject in which you are interested. I certainly didn't earn all of these degrees in psychology to get rich. I make less than most people I know but I am likely happier in my work than most people I know. I suppose it is a matter of preferences and what tradeoffs you are willing to make.

It is not necessary. Sometimes, it just gets in the way too... in most cases, it's just a piece of paper.

No, you do not need that piece of paper to be successful. But it helps :)
