Q: Craigslist and Meeting Places..what about new offers?

I have a person interested in an item I am going to sell on Craigslist. I prefer not to meet at my home or at their home because I will be conducting the business alone. Where are some good recommended places to meet besides a public parking lot? Any other tips? Thanks.

Any place that's public.

I usually meet them at a McDonalds that's near my house. That way you can sit down, have coffee, do your business, and be on your way once you're done with your drink.

I agree, any public space. I've done a few transactions on Craigslist and have met people at a local coffee shop. I've only bought something once, and the guy wanted to meet at his house, but I insisted on meeting outside of there (it was in a busy area of town).

Hey great suggestions! I think I will do the bookstore since I'm going there anyway. Thanks a lot!

It's alot harder for them to kidnap you and steal your kidneys in crowded places. Still, be wary of candy from strangers.

Yeah that's a good idea, Eve. I've done it at Starbucks, in front of pizza parlors, etc. I guess since I'm in a city its easier, but its pretty simple. Good luck selling your stuff!

All of these are good, because, like tehk said, it's not worth risking a kidney, I've seen Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, and I know that I want both of my kidneys. Or at least if one has to go, I want a doctor to do it.

I agree with Library or large bookstore like Barnes and Noble so in case some funny business goes down it'll be noticeable by others there that you need help if you call for it.

If you have a friend that can't come with you, see if you can call them and leave the phone in your pocket or something so it's transmitting the entire time. Cell minutes are cheap, comparatively. They can call the cops and the cops can find you quickly if your cell is transmitting. We have a 2 story gym in town with glass windows overlooking the parking lot. Great place to meet up for Craigslist goods. I'm a pretty big guy and feel completely safe walking in a park at night, but I have seen Pulp Fiction. No reason not to be safe.

Yeah, there are some creeps. I had one guy totally hit on me as he was trying to buy my stuff. I was like "Just take it!!!"

I have 2 people wanting to buy the item..I emailed the first one about picking it up, but he hasn't responded yet(since last night until now). How long should I wait for a response until I offer it to someone else?

I don't think there is any obligation on Craigslist so whoever arrange to meet you first or has the best offer gets the item. The problem is half of the time, they might not show up. And that's why I actually prefer eBay over Craigslist.. this and safety issues.. though I have sold 4-5 cars though eBay and I had to delivery the cars to them in person.
I would bring 1 or more friends with me and I would pick very public place and make sure they DO NOT know anything about you.. I would not even let them see my car license plate because you do not want any creep to know where you live or follow you home..
