Q: Does anyone do Black Friday anymore?
|
Black Friday before the internet because its own social event of standing out in the cold at 1am waiting for a store to open at 5. Does anyone still do it old school even with the specials that are available online?

| I WAITED LAST YEAR IN THE COLD TO GET TWO TV'S. I GOT A 40" FOR $300 AND A 50" FOR $450. IT IS ONLY WORTH IT FOR BIG TICKET ITEMS AND YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR BEFORE YOU GET TO THE STORE. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DO MORE THAN ONE STORE. COMBINE YOUR BLACK FRIDAY DEALS WITH ONLINE DEALS AND YOU CAN SAVE A BUNCH ON CHRISTMAS. |

I don't participate in Black Friday except online (and Cyber Monday, too!) but there are still tons of pictures every year of people standing in the frost and dark in front of Walmart at midnight to get the latest Barbie or whatever. If you wanna make a quick buck, sell hot chocolate to the people queued up waiting :p |

| Not anymore. I find better chances of getting great deals online without having to deal with the hoard of zombies. |

I haven't bothered with brick-and-mortar Black Friday for several years now. I do check out the deals beforehand, but I haven't seen anything worth camping out for in a long time. The stores only stock one or two of the fantastically discounted items, and you've got people camping outside the stores for days beforehand. It's just not worth it for me. As far as the less steeply discounted, better stocked items go, I can generally find equal or better deals online. The last time I went to Best Buy on Black Friday, the line almost completely encircled the store by the time I got there. I got the thing I came for only because someone had dumped one where it didn't belong. Then I lost half a day of work standing in line to check out. Three months later, the Black Friday price of my purchase became the regular price! |
