Q: Duplicate posts getting twittered/front paged

This is cross-posted from the deal in question: http://dealspl.us/product/target-com-back-in-black-friday-this-friday And I want to note that I'm on the cusp of hitting $50 in Money Makers, yet a duplicate from a newbie gets the twitter/front page treatment. Not saying there's a conspiracy, but it is interesting to point out. It's really unfair that a duplicate is getting twitter/front page action. Dupes happen from time to time on accident, but submitters need to be less lazy and search ahead before they submit something, even if it doesn't come up as a dupe upon link submission right away. I messaged @dealsplus regarding this, TWICE, with no response. If dealsplus wants those of us who are doing the legwork of submitting all these deals to remain loyal, then they should be more sensitive to basic issues like this. If the couple dozen or so regular submitters went away, dealsplus wouldn't last very long. I like this place, but these issues need to be addressed. Thanks for listening to the venting. Pretty frustrated about this, and I know a lot of others here would be too if they were in my exact position.

I appreciate the mods-that-be for making the situation right by front paging the original deal instead of the duplicate. I wish I knew who to thank though!

But, in the interest of fairness and for the sake of the moderators' time, those of us who aren't mods should police ourselves better and keep the duplicates to a minimum. I've submitted a duplicate here or there once in a while on accident, even after doing a search to make sure, but many dupes I've seen lately were clearly submitted without any conscientious forethought and without any checking. All that does is crowd out other, legit fresh submissions that might not otherwise be noticed.

Certain dupes like those of us who scramble to be the first to put up the nightly woot deals, that's a little more tolerable and understandable given the time sensitive nature. But those are clearly not the problem here.

I hope I'm not alone in this. Thanks for listening.

Us mods see a lot of submissions and do what we can to avoid the duplicates. If it shows up as a duplicate to someone when they submit it and they submit it anyway, it isn't visible until a moderator approves it. My guess is those duplicates that actually make front-page and through are ones that the system isn't recognizing that it is the same deal/product. Certain factors contribute to it, and we try our best to avoid complications like the one which inspired this thread.

It'd be great if the system were perfect, but nothing ever seems to work out that well. :) Thanks for being patient with us!

and updated deals? sometimes they sit for days (or just sit) like this one http://dealspl.us/product/laptop-bundle-with-laptop-laptop-case-4gb-flash-drive

if the same person updates twice but many days/weeks apart, does it cause a problem?

Nope, updates can be done whenever by whoever. They also get monitored, but it doesn't really cause issues with regards to duplicates. Or were you asking something else?

i don't want to cause a stir but yeah sorta, i updated that deal a while ago - 1st for $378 (it made the FP) then 3 days ago down to $348 - i know it's still waiting for approval because it's on page 8 of FP and still says 8 days old when it should show 3 days old.

i also noticed alot of coupons are NOT expiring - they're switching to "limited time." A few people have PM me about some of my submissions but i am unable to do anything about it ('cept to ask them to add a comment next to said coupon saying it's expired.

lastly, will we ever have the option to get notified if a deal is updated (like B4- view old DP commercial - middle of the page)? the coupon option seems to be working but i miss getting an email telling me something of interest may be in my price range. ;)

Yet another duplicate deal of mine got front-paged. I flagged the deal, commented with the proper link, sent messages to both @dealsplus and @dealsplusstaff and nothing's been done. @dealsplus has posted since I messaged them, so it's not as if nobody is monitoring the fort to take action.

I realize mistakes do happen, but it's what happens when one is confronted with a mistake that really matters.

These same problems have happened to me too. I hope there is a solution on the horizon!
