Q: Friend plus-ing

this friend plus-ing wrecks this site. the same posters get all of their deals pulsed as soon as the go up, and it doesn't matter if it is a good deal or not. if you look at who pluses who you can clearly see the patterns. so what happens is many good deals never get noticed, and many crappy deals go to the top. how hard would it to write new code limiting the number of pluses on the same person from one user?

If I was a new MM poster, I would be furious on how all the same people get their deals to the top of the heating up section  and  front page......even if it isn't that great of a deal.

Just look at all of the deals that start off at 9 plus as soon as there posted....... many of them every day.
and there not very good deals to top it off......

people need to start using the heating up section to solve this problem, if you see abuse give them a thumbs down.......

Mods need to start taking look at all the details for sure. So obvious to see who is doing it

I complained about the same thing. Some really retarded deals make front page and if DP does not fix this, the website will lose its appeal. Sad. Its DP politics. People have allies that help one another. Us new users are screwed. :(

I've been here for quite a few years and never noticed this though it doesn't surprise me. I suppose it's our own community's version of "click fraud." I've certainly never benefited from it and I am sorry that others do. Not sure what the mods could do unless they have the tools that Google does to detect the patterns where person A always gets clicks from persons B,C,D,E, etc., every time. I feel kinda naive that I never noticed it.

I *do* notice the high levels of dupes by coming in at a slightly different URL so that a deal is not immediately flagged as a dupe. I like to read as many deals as I can a day and I probably to 50 or more comments most days so when I see exact same item three or four times in an hour I wonder how it is happening. I try to flag them when I see them. I generally click on deals before commenting so that I can see the specs (I do mostly tech items) so I can tell when I am going to the same vendor with the exact part number. Oh, well.

Once more and I'll shut up. I think by bringing it up it makes the everyone more aware and maybe it's the beginning to a solution. I would like to think so. Thumbs up on your post.

Or determine how many actual purchases are made through that user's post in order to make front page.

Though having a high rep is nice, I don't want to be plus'd unless it's plus-worthy. In the same respect, I wouldn't want to be thumb downed unless I deserve it.
When I plus deals, I think it's a great deal. That's about it. I don't think it's particularly difficult to increase your rep as long as you're actively looking and posting. Users like rockinnrolla, xptrish, heyimdennise, and Florida2Texas only joined the dealspl.us community January 2012 or December 2011 and they're already hitting the front page at least the top of the heating up section multiple times. Their rep score has also skyrocketed in comparison to the speed that mine has gone up. However, they've also posted 3-4x as many deals as I have (and I joined dealspl.us in July 2008!)
The more deals you post, the higher the chances that I'll plus or comment on a deal that's yours. That's just statistics. :/

@encorez.. The fact that they're commenting on your deal doesn't mean they're plussing it..
I agree with @arsiel the more good deals you post the more chances you get to get plussed

I guess I just haven't noticed any correlation or don't really pay attention to who posts what.
& thanks encorez, that means a lot to me :)

Yes, heyimdennise. I've been keeping tabs on you newer members and envying how fast your rep is increasing. Lol. I'm relieved every time I see that my rep is a little higher than Florida2Texas' :P That probably won't last very long though. Props to you guys for quickly learning the ropes and contributing to the site! I've yet to really be a true deal-hunter without dealspl.us

But then again.. If you're here for the deals you just have to search.. who cares if the are in the front page.. unless you're here for making money

@encorez: I think you should probably message a mod because it seems as if you are very upset and maybe you'll be able to get some direct answers. I hate to see anyone have a sour day because of this.

To be honest, I hardly ever go to the "HOT" page to look for deals, I always go to the "FRESH" page and look at all the deals starting from page 1 to page 10. I have notice that a lot of the so called "HOT" deals aren't that HOT and find a lot more deals on the FRESH pages, plus its a lot more fun looking at all the new deals as they show up.
