Q: How can a n00b get reputation?

Like sideburns, I joined dealsplus in order to post a deal on behalf of my company. I joined a few days ago and have been looking for a way to build my reputation--I do get newsletters from a couple of sites (tiger direct, newegg), but it seems like all their deals get posted long before I can repost them. Ditto any deals I've noticed on Amazon over the last few days. I've tried adding comments on deals, but I don't really have all that much to add to most (I did a little research on one, but that didn't give me any thumbs-ups). Is it tried-and-true to just keep trying, should I sit on my email to beat whoever's reposting the newegg deals to the punch, ...? [[DOH, did just figure out I can create a retailer account, so I'll give that a go. But really, how do you build your initial reputation? :) ]]

I struggled in that same way you did when I started out. I still feel like I don't get much notice, and I really am having a hard time figuring out what makes the members here click.

I've tried funny, I've tried deep discounts, I've tried free, I've tried unique, I've tried gadgets, I've tried homewares... Nothing has really taken off.

My best luck has been trying to find ways to improve other people's deals. That at least gets your name out there as something recognizable. If someone posts a neat deal and you realize it could be a better deal coupled with a 20% off coupon you saw elsewhere, edit the post and improve the bargain!

Aside from that, just gotta keep on keepin on. It's a slow climb for most, it seems.

Good question. You're already getting reps pts for posting this question. I'm a mother of two toddlers and I don't often get a chance to post a good deal where someone hasn't beat me to it.

But all in all, new and great deals always comes up no matter what time of the day - I guess the best time to post a deal is when the "Regular Deal Posters" are snoozing (I sometimes have to do that).

On the same note, my netbook is a bit slow and most of the time someone have already beat me to the deal post. So yes, I'm trying to save money for a faster netbook or laptop....hopefully, I can get one for Free from a giveaway or similar.
