Q: How many people think that dealspl.us should have

a negative rating system. It was really bad with people submitting garbage deals when winning a prize depended on your submissions. Now its getting back to that same way with the Money Makers program. There is so much junk that has no business getting a single plus let alone get front paged like is happening. Some will say "just ignore that submision then" and let it run its course. I disagree, we need to weed out people who just post deals for an item because they saw it on another site and want credit for it but fail to realize its a terrible deal, or what really gets me is they leave out intricate details such as promo codes or rebate links because all they do is copy the link and submit it. All the other major deal sites have this option, from Slickdeals thumbs up/down ratings to Fatwallets red/green rating system. There is very little abuse with it on both sites and it really helps keep the community aware that no this is not a deal. The problem I have is if even 1 person buys and item that was linked here and turned out to be a terrible deal and could be had much cheaper (which happens quite often) then that is 1 too many people paying more than they should. A simple - rating next to the + rating would really be nice. And I would keep the same format, whatever your personal + rating is then it should change the submission by that rating so that people who have been here longer have a little more advantage to warn people about bad deals. Just my 2 cents, I know it might be getting old since I have been pushing for this for years but I really think it would be a nice improvement to the site.

i do agree that every now and then i find a deal that isn't really much of a "deal," but if i recall, the negative rating scale that was implement a while back here on DP was taken down after trolls took over. it was very annoying to just about all the users of the site and was taken down for a reason.

having said that, i can definitely see the benefit of having a negative rating scale. however, maybe if it's just something simple, such as "good deal," "great deal," and "super deal." then for those deals that aren't even great at all, there can just be a no click..i think that could work. i think this was sorta' the idea with the positive ratings, since if a deal is really good, it'll get plussed a lot, whereas those deals that are mediocre won't get plussed. so in that case, we're looking at a number system, even though it's relative based whoever is actually plussing the deal.

hmm...interesting..

If i may make an observation (again), this program is keeping us from plussing each others deals because, well it's a view for them and not for us. Why would i want to promote someone else's deals when i'm trying to make money on my own? Having the refer option for coupons is a great idea - it would be awesome to have the same for deals...

OR, go back to B4 when we were happy to post REAL deals and praised each other when they did the same. ;)

My opinion of this has absolutely nothing to do with the Money Makers program. Its all about the garbage deals or items that are posted at retail price which is majorly annoying. Like someone tonight posted Call of Duty Black Ops for $60. Are you serious? IMO we should have the option to just give that a negative rating because I am sure there are people out there that see it on a deal site and think WOW my grandson wants that and its on Dealsplus for $60 when in fact they can get it at Best Buy for $60 and get a $20 gift card and $10 in reward cash.

Even if it is only limited to say users with a plus rating over 3. I dont know its just irritating and I know there have to be people who actually see something posted and dont know any better, whats worse is people plus alot of these deals that are just terrible prices.

Ok that was a bad example with the CoD game. Didnt realize the gift card deal was over, just the $10 in rewardzone certificates are left. But you get the point (I hope). Anyone have an opinion? If not have you ever looked into the rating systems on Slickdeals or Fatwallet and how well they work to weed out the junk submissions?

i don't know..i think it's just about what type of audience we have and what type of audience we want to attract. yeah..i see a lot of deals that don't really seem "deal" worthy..but at the same time, i've seen a lot of members who are pretty rude about their opinions.

i think when people are negative to a deal, it discourages people from sharing..and it reflects poorly on our community.

this site is about sharing deals..whether good or great..a deal's a deal. i mean..saving $5 is nothing for some..but for others..that's an awesome deal.

so maybe it's the attitudes we need to fix. i see this every where..it's not just this site. people can be rude..obnoxious, annoying..you name it.

i still see pros and cons to the negative rating system.

I think most of the issues Acidbaby has pointed out would be fixed if people just spent more time plussing deals they think are really good.

What if a deal needed 40-50 plusses to get front paged instead of 15-20? I think it would be pretty hard for lousy deals to frontpage, and new-profile trolls would be hard pressed to influence the rating. That way, it keeps things positive as apposed to negative. Having a negative rating system might really discourage new members who are trying to join the community.

As for people over paying for something, I think it would be there own fault for thinking a deal is good if it only has a couple plusses on it. As it is now, good deals get buried all the time, so it's hard to tell if it's a good price or not.

Actually thats a great idea and I agree that would make things more interesting if it took say 30-40 plusses to get front page. Thumbs up!

it has ALOT to do with the $M program. The more deals one has, the more views and I believe the noobs need a 3 rating B4 they start earning - again, the more deals the more potential for plus's to boost their rating. Until they get "schooled" in the fine art of finding and posting deals, we will have to "put up" with occasional shyt. ;)

No I meant for me personally it has nothing to do with money makers. I like mavens idea, make it a bit harder to get front page status.

i don't know..i don't think it's all about the money maker program..well..maybe i just don't know. i don't post nearly enough to actually accumulate enough money to make money. i still post sometimes and comment and all that jazz..but it's not like i think i'm really making money here.

I'm open to suggestions, then. I just find that *I* am very stingy with my plusses because of the program.

For me, I tend to plus a deal only if it's pretty darn good and specific to me in some say. Also, if I want to revisit the deal, then I plus it to put it in my profile. I've even plussed deals and then later realize that the deal doesn't really pertain to me like I had originally thought, so I de-plus it.

ahhh, so you're the un-plusser guy. :P

Another thing i'd like to see are deals on the FP different from those on some of the other sites (like SD, DT, DC, FW and RMN). Just because it's popular in one place doesn't make so here (or so I was instructed way back when I started posting). Example, the weather is getting cold in the midwest and I would like to see more "winterized" deals not "shorts and sandals." :P

Oh there are tons of deals from other sites than dont get a single plus here but they are frontpaged on those other sites. Each site has its own people to cater to. SD is alot of techies, fatwallet and fishingfordeals has more adult crowd and parents. DP has a nice mix of both, but even still I have posted amazing deals from sites like Bath and Body works that have never gotten a single plus and all I am thinking is you people are crazy.

I am curious what the admin and mod viewpoint of this subject is. What do you guys think? Making it a bit harder to get front paged, or a negative rating system to allow the users to control that better.
