what do you think about all deals starting out at 0? I think it would level out the playing field, so we can see the true good deals on the front page. People with more plusses by their name do have more consistently good deals, but they do cover up better deals from people with few plusses. I have seen insane deals go by with no plusses, just the ones you get when you post a deal. Just an idea to consider.

I guess I can see the plusses (no pun intended) and the minusses to posting every deal in real time. You're right (if I am understanding you correctly) that people with a large following will likely have their deals on the front page, but posting all to the front page will likely keep most posts burried, where nobody will ever see them.

What I mean by that is, I personally look up the front page, then the next, until I see back until the last time I opened the site. If all posted deals were placed on the front page, the front page would change constantly. I wouldn't check past about page 3 before giving up on all of the delas that I had no interest in.

As a member with low ranking and no following who posts few deals...sounds great. As a consumer? Nope...wouldnt wanna wade through the multitude for the few good deals.

In this debate, the consumer side wins out. I say no.

@nthsll nooo not on front page! No deal starts on front page. I mean every deal should start out at the same plusses, so their is a level playing field for deals to get to the main page.

Ah, I gotcha. Do they not all start with 0?

@nthsll click fresh. You will then go to a page with all deals just posted. The amount of plusses you have by your username on your profile is how many plusses you start out with. People with more plusses already have an advantage to get to the front page, which ruins the point because noobs on this site might post a fantastic deal but never be recognized.

That does kinda suck. Either way you go about it (coming in with 5+ or getting friends to +) its artificially inflating deals to the heating up section and the fp.

I'd like for a mod to answer this for us.

The people who have 5+ have worked hard and posted a lot of good deals to get to that point. A lot of people were here from the beginning and others started low and worked hard to earn their rep. I can certainly understand your point, but I think a lot of great deals from reliable and veteran posters might get lost because there are certainly a lot of nonsense deals out there.

If a deal is really good, usually multiple people will try to post it. Maybe if people see it has already been posted, they should give it a thumbs up. That would help the lower rep members and if you were going to post the same deal, obviously you think it deserves recognition anyhow.

@encorez: I don't know. Good deals have the tendency to be ignored or lost in all the clutter no matter what your rep is. The front page deals are usually pretty good though and I have seen quite a few front page deals from new members lately. It took me over a year to get something on the front page!

@virginiaPeanuts your right about 5 plus ppl having more consistent better deals, but the good deals that 5 plus ppl have are getting all the thumbs ups while the great deals of 1 or 2 plus ppl are completely covered up. Yes, a lot of 1 or 2 plus ppl's deals suck, but I have come by wayyyy to many deals that I thought are front page worthy with like 4 plusses.

sigh..this will always be complicated. Because who is to say what's a great deal? What one person might think a great deal, to another it isn't so great. The mods are in control of this- do something about this problem!
totooo i know you are reading this... help?

Historical pricing determines if its a great deal or not.
