Q: New Heating Up Feature - Opinions?

Once again, really awesome deals (not posted by myself) have fallen by the wayside because someone just can't stand to see their own deal so low on the list. Example - 5 person raft over 60% off, 4.5 star rating and a bunch of you dropped it down like it was a sale on VD. I would really like to see a "reason for" feature added. Mods need only be the ones to see said reason(s). Seriously, those of us with 4 and 5 plusses pretty much have control (next to mods). Oh and to the public comments that say: "Good deal but I'm pretty sure this was cheaper B4" - please do not speculate, check it out 1st. Past sales CAN be googled. :P

I have asked many times for the ability to see who thumbs a deal up or down. It would stop the abuse of the system if people had to justify their reason.

By the way, I thumbed the raft deal UP. The picture is misleading. The raft is HUGE. I thought it was a good deal.

it made FP about the time i finished this message but you get the idea.
I don't really care WHO did the deed as we all have our own opinions but listing a reason for a negative vote weeds out "popularity or just plain selfish votes."

Thank you for this - as I was the one to find they had dropped the price even lower on the raft and thought it was an AWESOME Deal! Didn't know how to change the OP's thumbnail as it was already there - but if people could see just HOW big this thing is - they would see it is a Super Deal (IMO).
I am new here - but don't mind a bit if people find a better price on something I have posted and post an update to it - after all - we are ALL here to see the best deals, right?

I think showing people is a bit much. The mods can certainly tell who thumbs up and thumbs down, but I agree that folks should have to comment. Check yourself before you wreck yourself!

Please also post a comment if it's a great deal.

@FibroMom - A lot of people are here now to make money. That's why it's become so cutthroat. Money changes things.

becky - that's why I hate this feature. Mods still have to "rescue" the deals about to be lost.

Vin, do you remember a hidden test feature where we just voted yes/no if the deal is FP worthy? Taking the points away seems rude.

It's a popularity contest and not much more.

Example:
Invicta Watch posted 19 Hours ago (4 plusses - zero of which came from other users): http://dealspl.us/Jewelry-and-Watches_deals/p_invicta-0718-women-s-angel-gold-plated-white-watch

Same Invicta Watch posted as a duplicate less than an hour ago (13 Plusses): http://dealspl.us/Jewelry-and-Watches_deals/p_invicta-angel-womens-gold-plated-white-watch

I've said it before, you can't take this system seriously.

i like the heating up feature, but see ALOT of stuff that isn't FP worthy make it only because how I feel who posted it, as they always seem to be the FP folks. I have only thumbs up deals I thought were good. if I didn't like them i didn't vote, only because alot of them to me were not FP worthy, and I don't wanna get in trouble for thumbing down LOL I would like to see the deals with less votes first and then if i want to search for the deal with most votes then sort it like that. Because there are some good deals with only 1-6 votes and they never get any further because nobody sees them. my two cents, I would rather be able to see it in reverse order instead of the most votes one first.

The heating up feature is just ok..Although it really hasn't changed the rhythm of what kind of deals get front paged or receive a plus. It was mentioned above that dealspl.us is a popularity contest and the system has flaws, I agree with that statement, so why can't we test the theory and only the mods see who posted deals, and we as users see the deal for what it is actually worth, not who posted it? So question to mods can deals be posted without users name attached to it, just the deal no names?? So that way we see the deal for what it is worth, not who posted it!!

That's why I suggest a "hidden tally" of the votes. We need only vote yes/no and be done with it.

In the end, I hope the site is getting the views they're hoping for.

Oh yeah, why start an updated deal with zero - makes the deal look bad from the get-go.
