I did and do this all the time....

Call them up and say you are thinking about dropping them...

They will offer you a discount or a free upgrade.

AT&T just game me free text messaging worth $30 a moth free for 6 months...  $180............call  #611

Road runner gave my Turbo upgrade for free......

Cable cut monthly cost....( I have  directv now )

It doesn't hurt to call them up and threaten to cancel.. and do it more than once, if you don't get a deal. Depends on the sales person, some of them care and some don't.

good luck

in my defense..i didn't call purposely to get more..i actually called when my contract was up and i said i was ready to cancel the account because it was just too much money..and then BLAM..they did magic.

Hahah, I've heard things like this before but the individuals are usually in nimrodboy3's case - not yours, Rez!
I don't have the nerve to just do that.

It's not just you. ATT has a detentions offer right now of either free family messaging for 6 months or $10 off for life. The only thing is within the next month or so ATT is going to family shared plans like verizon did recently. Anyway we've been discussing this over at slickdeals for a few weeks now. I got a bill credit for $130 rather than the 6 months free since there won't be family messaging anymore in a few weeks.

OH it wouldnt matter anyway unless you change your plan. Youll always be grandfathered in on your current plan but for me if its more economical I will switch to a shared plan. But that is unlikely as I see what it would cost me on verizon with their shared plans and it would be roughly $200 a month.

praveen it doesnt matter if anyone knows about it. its in the ATT retentions departments computers. When someone calls to cancel their service this is one of the suggestions the script recommends they use to keep the customer. Its not some big secret that we need to keep quiet. Every business has these sort of offers. Call Directv and cancel because of the Viacom fiasco. I got 6 months of Directv Premier and half off the NFL Sunday ticket for taking it all the way to the cancellation department.

I get miserable reception in my house with AT&T. Verizon reception is great. I called AT&T and told them I was thinking about switching and they sent me one of their cell boosters (called the MicroCell.

It sucks. Hasn't done squat for my reception unless I want to rebooth the POS every time I want to make a call.

All of this to say...yep, threatening to make a change lights a fire under them. They previously wanted me to pay 200 dollars for this thing.

Prolly still headed from Verizon though.

Microcells are $200 and they dont always work. WHen they do they are amazing. If you have no towers in your area you pretty much SOL microcell or not.

We have towers in the area, but the signal is weak. I don't know what is going on with this thing. When I plug it in I get full bars. Half an hour later its like it doesn't exist. But if I reset it or unplug it and plug it back in, it works fine for a little while...then its back to a sink hole.

I'ma try to setit up a little differently and see if that helps. So far, color me unimpressed.
