Q: Should trashy reality shows be taken off air?
|
It seems like kids growing up today have no sense of reality due to all the garbage shows aired on TV. Why isn't the government censoring these shows?? (Jersey Shore, Housewives, Bachelor) But they want to stick their nose in censoring how we use the internet! Young adults today are completely lost as to what is right or wrong. Partying and bad behavior get posted on their Facebook so often, for what? To show themselves emulating what goes on in trashy realty TV shows! What happened to the good ol' Saved By the Bell and Full House? We need to bring those shows back!

money..that's the issue. people watch shows because there's drama..but that's what sells. so nowadays..you see the same stuff..either a bunch of friends who are all idiots on camera..or some new show about friends who somehow all end up sleeping with each other..there's usually a gay person..and then there's a lesbian kiss scene... it is weird to see what's on tv nowadays..quite scary, actually. in the end..i say it's money..if that's what sells..then companies continue to manufacture shows that they know will get them the income they want..when something works..they roll with it.. i mean..once reality tv became a hit..it was like all you found on tv was reality tv..it's still around too..then you see all these shows about finding talent..it worked..so now a bunch of shows are doing the same thing.. so silly..this world.. |

| Reality TV is cheaper for the network and, as nimrod pointed out, people actually watch it. I can't stand most reality shows because I find them to be fake and ridiculous but they are just giving the public what ratings indicate they want and what makes sense financially. |

| Hahahahaha honestly it is ruining our youth, but what can we do? Everyone young now thinks its cool to be a slut and divorce is fine. This is probably just a trend, it might stop soon. |

| Money is the greed factor. Money is always the problem because people always feel that they do not have enough. As a result, the values of America are disregarded. |

I recognize that these TV shows are "trashy" but I... still watch them. I guess it's different for me because I no longer fall under the audience that can potentially be influenced. I watch Jersey Shore and the Bachelor. I guess I really can't say why. They're the shows that I watch when I have time and am already caught up on everything else I watch (i.e. House, Modern Family, Big Bang Theory, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, Grey's Anatomy, Nikita, The Walking Dead, etc. Yes, I'm a show junkie). Just because I watch these shows doesn't mean I don't have values. I cringe whenever Ben from the Bachelor kisses multiple girls in an episode (which is every episode). I don't drink, smoke, or party even even though I was Jersey Shore. I don't get enticed to do so either. I know what you mean though, gangstabarbie, because I worry about the "bad influences" in the media through music. For example, S&M by Rihanna. I felt so awkward when I was in the car with my boyfriend's 13 year old sister and that song came on the radio. I can't believe that's what kids are listening to these days. (My goodness, does saying that make me old??) |

I for one don't watch these shows regularly. I'd come across them at bedtime when I really don't care what's on in the background or when literally NOTHING is on. I believe most of it is staged anyway but it is important that parents take responsibility in either restricting these shows entirely or explaining to them that the reason why these shows are on is because they are so far from reality, that some find it entertaining. I would hope these shows aren't aired with the purpose of teaching our youth acceptable behavior. If so, they should be ashamed and our culture is going down to toilet. |
