Q: Thumbing Down Deals
|
Hi,
I wanted to share how much it helps to know about this site when you are using it. When I first started using this site, I would thumb down deals I loved but that had run out of supplies, etc. Little did I know that these thumbs up & thumbs down gave the poster rep! Once I learned how to navigate the site better and I could also post deals, I learned about reputation. Reading through the FAQ's I got a bit of a sinking feeling realizing that I had decreased some peoples' reps down b/c I thought I was helping inform others that supplies had run out, etc. Now I thumbs up good deals that I love and simply comment to let people know when they run out--it's not like the poster can control when they run out or predict when it can happen, lol! It would be helpful if there was an tab about what it means to plus, thumb down, and thumb up at the top of the page so noobs can help promote good deals instead of unknowingly putting them down. Anyone else have any similar experiences? |

More new people need to play by the rules of this site. If it isn't FP worthy, give it a thumbs down. These high posters, post to make MONEY, not to do you a favor. |

I actually think some people are here to return the favor of others posting a good deal. That's why I was looking at the FAQs when I was brand new, because I was grateful for the deals and wanted to encourage other people to keep posting by hopefully posting something useful. Then I found out I could make money, score! :) But, definitely, new people need to understand that a thumbs down is like saying "I don't like this deal"/"This is a bad deal." |

| But what may be a bad deal for you may be a good deal to some one else, If you have a dog then a deal on food is great, if you didn't have one you would not understand if it was a good deal or not. Deals a perception of ones taste. What you may hate I may love |

| True, catchersmom. I shy away from thumbs down-ing deals for that reason. Come to think of it, I have not thumbs-downed any deals since I found out it affects peoples' reps since I have not seen any scams or the like. |

| Great point to bring up. Lots of casual users don't really pay much attention to the 'rules' & are just scoping out deals. Those little thumbs aren't always used correctly & the user doesn't realize the mistake |

@encorez, that would be a good time to thumb down. In this post, I was referring to when people thumb down a great deal that just ran out before they got to it. But, definitely, I see a ton of just average deals cropping up today that I was adding a discount to and just gave up. That poster is still adding more deals without that coupon code, ugh. I still keep in mind that if someone was already planning on buying x item, a small price drop might be a big deal. Or someone might have a giftcard s/he wants to spend before losing it. |

| encorez, I am seeing a lot of the crappy deals you were referring to cropping up. That one user posting tons of crappy Kohls deals, really literally too many! I see what you mean. :( |

| I tried to e-mail or message them but there is no where to on the page to do it.So I left a message on one of the deals, they are brand new and it would be better to help and educate them then to ridicule them, Don't ya think |

| @catchersmom, I agree. I did edit a bunch of that user's deals so s/he could see, at the very least that the deal posted was not as good as it could get and I commented on a deal. I know that a comment will be noted at the top of the dealspl.us page so I did try to inform this individual. I am certainly not ridiculing the person! I also saw there is no place to message someone, that would make the most sense. |

| catchersmom, don't forget to let us know if your idea works! Here's hoping for the best :) |

| Oh I never said, But lately on here it has been nothing but a grip session, a lot of it is so uncalled for, I am sure some of my deals are not the greatest all the time, but they still are deals, May not be what everyone is looking for, But they are still deals, Let me ask you to some of you drive around to save a penny in gas. The old adage a penny saved is a penny earned. I post on several day's a lot of deals, and then others not many. I am not greedy nor to I just post to post. Some people who have responded to these threads do not even post and have not in months |

Oh, it's so hard to tell who what comments are directed to w/o good ol' nonverbals. That, and although a deal may not be the best, sometimes just the coupon code shared can be really helpful. I do appreciate deals that you referred to that are good but maybe not the best b/c sometimes I just need that item anyways. It's just that posting more than 10 mediocre deals from the same site within a couple of hours does not seem like what this site is about, but we'll see if our noob comes around. It seems like a lot of work to do so I doubt anyone could keep that up! Too bad about the gripe thing on ask & answer, just look how far off topic this whole page got, lol! |
