Q: Using an HDTV as a computer monitor
|
I am looking at buying an HDTV to use in my bedroom to replace my computer monitor and TV. My computer is an XP Pro P4 2.4ghz with 2gb ram with a Radeon 9600XT 128mb video card. The HDTV I am looking is a Dynex 26" Class / 720p / 60Hz / LCD HDTV. Is their anything I need to know so I can make sure that the HDTV will work with my computer. I don't have HD in my bedroom. Also the main computer games I play are Call of Duty 1 and 2. I do have a gamecube system I play to hook up to the HDTV.

| Just make sure that you have a cable that can go from the computer to the tv and all the other cables. Otherwise it should be fine as long as everything is hooked up right. |

Agreed. You'll need to know what video output you have on the PC (VGA and DVI are both available on that card) and that the TV offers that input. You'll need to decide if you are using external speakers or running the sound to the TV as well. Another consideration is if you are using the PC as the TV tuner. |

| I have connected two of our laptops to our 42" plasma tv simply by using an HDMI cable. The results are awesome. The nice thing about HDMI is that it carries both video and audio so you don't need to worry about a separate ganglion of cables for left & right audio. Anyway, at high resolutions it is awesome to use your HDTV as a monitor. We use it most often for video. We used to convert video and burn to a DVD but these days we just carry a notebook downstairs with the .avi file and simply watch the video via the laptop thru the HDTV. Have fun!! |

I think you are good then. The TV lists a PC input, but does not state whether that is VGA or DVI. You'll just have to check and get the appropriate cable. Looks like you'll want to run the PC sound to your stereo, or to the TV with audio out going to the stereo. I think you will be happy with the results. |
