How mature is she and what type of gaming would she be doing?

Generally, the PSP is geared towards older kids, and the DS, a younger audience. If it's something you'd like her to have and use for a few years, I'd go with the PSP.

it does really depend on what she likes, but i feel like there are a lot more games geared for the female audience with the ds. as for being a kid..i don't think that'll be a problem. i have a DSi and i enjoy it like crazy.

I'd agree with the DS. PSP is geared more towards boys and young adults from the titles I've seen.

Definately the DS. The games are more for younger kids and also involve alot of learning, so that's a plus.
I love my DS. The graphics are also pretty good. The PSP is for teens/older kids

You guys are probably right; the DS may be better for her. I wasn't really factoring in that she was a girl.

I would opt for something more along the lines of a stack of good books.

My daughters want the Dsi, but I think the Ds would still be better than the PSP.

Yeah, I love both our DS and PSP but my first reaction is the PSP has alot more action, boy games. I love games like the new Kingdom Hearts on the PSP but really is for older folks. I always saw scan the game recommendations by age and it will give you an idea which system offers stuff for your receipient. I see more kids that age with a DS. Plus she can get all the cute decorations for her case.

The DS has a huge library for girls and my nieces use the DS cooperative mode to play games with their friends while on the schoolbus.

I would definitely say the DS! I'm 20 now, but I always played GameBoy and Super Nintendo games growing up. Now I have a Wii. I'm not very good at video games (ha) and Nintendo has a lot of fun games that aren't too involved and impossible to beat.

If you decide to go with the DSi Walmart right now gives you a $20 gift card with purchase.
