Q: Will any of you be affected by the SOPA online blackout?
|
On Wednesday January 18th several popular online sites will be offline in protest of "Stop Online Piracy Act" (SOPA). Will this affect any DPers or will it be business as usual?

That is only one aspect of SOPA. Even more important is it will shut sites down that link to foreign copyrighted material. So search-sites like Google will definitely be affected. A lot of user generated sites will be effected. Facebook... Youtube will most definitely be effected. For large sites it is impossible to stop all copyrighted material from coming through. At least that is how I understand it. The law hasn't passed yet. Tomorrows blackout is in protest of the law. Wikipedia, Mozilla, Reddit, and other popular sites are going to shut off for a day in protest. http://news.cnet.com/8301-31921_3-57329001-281/how-sopa-would-affect-you-faq/ |
