They are really taking their sweet ass time to go out of business. 5% off on Tv's and big electronic items per week is not considered an out of business sale. Probably doing this so they won't loose to much money selling the items to quickly.

Circuit City has always been overpriced with poor service so it's no wonder they are going out of business.

STUPID PEOPLE , That is what gives these people the power... The only reason circuit city can jack up the prices and then only sell the product for 30% off is because there are so many stupid people buying the stuff.... HELLO! wake up america... We are just a bag full of uneducated pot smoking crack addicted people in a society that wants everyone to take the blame for their stupidity... UGHHHHHHH... On another note I am glad circuit city is going out of business because they were overpriced and the service sucked.... We were in control for a brief second and then they did this last scam on the stupid people and it worked...... No wonder we as a nation are going into the toilet.........Have a nice day.

All of the posts below are spot on. The creditors want the max for their investment, can't blame them. Most prices are OK at best, there are a few deals but you have to be informed about your targets and willing to walk away.

The only thing that you could ask for is a bit more integrity in the process and more oversight from the authorities to protect consumers. The lessens I have learned is that these liquidators including the ones Circuit City are using operate at a level just one step away from highway robbery because just like a thug with a knife or snake oil salesmen of old they are counting on being gone before the laws that the rest of us live by are able to catch up to them and hold them accountable. No ongoing concern would be able to get away with the out and out lies, bait and swap and unscrupulous practices that the CC liquidators and others in their business do. To outright lie like signs that say 40% off entire store and then its hard to find a single item with that level of discount or to mark a price on a product and then refuse to honor their price sticker after you have stood in long check out lines to get that price would be illegal for any ongoing concern. So my obvious question, why are they allowed to get away with it?

Con artists and thieves!

I went to the store in Durham NC right after the sale started and bough a guitar hero guitar for $17, went back two weeks later to by two more and they had jcked the prices up. It costed $23 each, I sid something about it and they said if you don't like it don't buy it. You can still find better deals at other stores. Have sale or don't but don't try and sucker people. No wonder they are going out.

Within the last week, the real deals have finally come around. I picked up an Olympus flash unit (FL-36R) for about $160 US and an Olympus 70-300mm telephoto lens for about $250 US-- with tax! All told, neither item was available cheaper on either eBay or anywhere else. True, further discounts may come along, but everything may be picked over by then. Gotta hedge your bets wisely!
My brother picked up car remote start units for his business 40% off, in some cases $20 US cheaper than what he pays from the distributor.
Bottom line: If you know what you're looking for and have done your research, you will find a deal.

I used to work for Circuit City as one of many regional senior management. We have been mandated by our stock holders to find ways to get revenue with faux discount strategy. It did not work as consumer find better and honest deal on-line. I have not seen any statement on this blog to be untrue. (Matt)

Everything I was interested in purchasing during this so called liquidation sale, were at a minimum of 10% above other stores in my community. I was also a former customer and I was ripped off for my rebates. I was told I did not have the proper documentation for a rebate. (I had submitted the sale slips that were given to me by the store.)

Going out of biz means 50% to 75% off not 10% or 20%. Plus they did raise the prices.

THEY CLAIMED THAT THEY ALREADY OFFLOADED 450 MILLION WORTH OF GOODS AT 10% DISCOUNT AND INFLATED PRICE. YOU CAN ALWAYS FIND UNINFORMED PEOPLE WHO HEAR THE WORD LIQUIDATION AND FEEL THAT THEY WILL GET A GOOD PRICE THIS EARLY. HERE IN NYC I PAY 8.25% SALES TAX ...

What a joke. I went there looking for a car stereo that best buy and just about any other online retailer listed at $600. Circuit city sticker price was $1040 with a wonderful 10% off.., Do the math. They are jacking up prices 40% and slapping then blinding people with 10% off sticker.

I say SO WHAT! They owe you nothing and certainly not stupendous deals. Sure it's a gimmick as are most "sales". But if you were a creditor they owed money to, you'd want them to get the most they can to pay off as much of their debt to you as possible. While it will take time, this clears a lot of dead wood out of the market to allow new and competitive operations to get a foothold. In the meantime, if suckers think they have a deal at 10%, let 'em go for it.

"I hope there are real discounts this time." - Write it off as a lost cause at this point. A swarm of people already picked up the good stuff at 10% off of full MSRP. And now, only the slowest moving items will go from 30% to 40%. The items you don't want.

Forget it. Only visit to take pictures of what a failure looks like. Perhaps the only time worth going is at the very end, when they're selling fixtures and stuff.

I stopped by at the Circuit city. Even after 20 to 30% discount their prices are higher than most of the other retail stores. don't waist your time.

When companies go bankrupt, a liquidating company comes in and usually mark the price to retail or MSRP, then give discounts. The discount % gets bigger as time goes. So, just wait.
