Doing good for the holidays

Every year, towards the end of the year, usually around October and November I start to think of something I want to do for the holidays that will benefit people who are in need.

Here are some ideas I'd like to share with my fellow DP users so that we may all spread the holiday cheer

Toys for Tots: Locate the closest dropoff location, and drop off an unwrapped toy for kids who are in need. I've seen dropoff locations in local malls, and a lot of small business int he area are setup to collect. Cash Donations are welcome too.

St Jude Children's Research Hospital: Donate to St Jude Children's Hospital The mission of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment.

Make a Wish Foundation: Make a donation to the Make a Wish Foundation. Since 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has enriched the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish granting work.

Operation Shoebox Currently, our troops are in desperate need of travel sized hygiene products for the troops. If you have any you would like to donate, please send it to them at: Operation Shoebox 8360 E. Highway 25, Belleview FL 34420.

Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child Pack a shoebox with toys and school supplies, personal hygiene products like toothpaste and toothbrushes and drop it off at a local dropoff location. Your shoebox will travel thousands of miles to another country where these products will tremendously benefit needy kids. The cost is $7 and you can pack as many shoeboxes as you want. You can even follow your box and learn which country your gift went to.

In addition or in lieu of doing any of the above, you can always drop off food at your local homeless shelter. There are also a lot of local programs that accept winter coat and canned goods donations for the needy. Whatever it is that you decide to do, I hope it leaves you with a good feeling in your heart. I try to help locally also, great causes. The smile of a child is priceless.

Donations and charitable work are always high on my list. I'm always grateful and fortunate for what I have and give back whenever I can.

Not only does it make you feel good but I do believe in karma. Once again it has struck me. Within the last month I donated about $200 to random strangers, homeless, and just those down on their luck. I was graced with a new job, doubled my salary, working closer to home more often and just an overall more friendly company and atmosphere.

And it only takes a few minutes of your time to open a fundraiser for a charity online. I believe someone else here also does the same charity as myself. That being Pets For Patriots. I do no work at all except spammming my url on facebook and twitter and have raise $750 since July.
