The Meanings Of The Colors Of Roses
|
I love to send roses, especially at the times my sweetheart least expects them. Until a few years ago, I had no idea that there were meanings attached to the colors of roses. I don't know that anyone I sent roses to knew the meanings either. But, just to be on the safe side, lets go through them.
I believe that this color code can apply to any flower - not just roses. Red: Love, Desire, and Passion. That one is pretty easy - I think we all know that one. A single red rose expresses gratitude (that surprised me a bit). ![]() Pink: To indicate an interest, to flirt a bit, or to make a less bold statement than the bright red rose. Pink can also convey admiration or simply joy. Your recipient will probably know what you meant (if they know at all). ![]() Orange: Excitement! Desire and Passion. I think this color might indicate something more physical in a relationship as opposed to the more romantic/emotional meaning of red. ![]() Yellow: Friendship, joy, "I care," and lightheartedness. You could send these to just about anyone. I would guess it would be a nice color for someone who is ill and/or in the hospital. It is certainly a sunny and cheery color. Yellow roses that have a reddish tip indicate that you are transitioning from friendship to love. ![]() White: Purity, secrecy, silence. It can also symbolize alarm. This one seems a bit tricky to me. Red and white, together, symbolize unity. Now, that is a nice sentiment. ![]() Lavender: Love at first sight. I think this is a great color and you could also use this color to tell your special someone that you have fallen in love with them. ![]() Purple: Pride or success. Also, royalty. You could use this color for someone who has recently graduated, gotten a promotion, or otherwise has "done good." That's my interpretation, anyway. ![]() Black: The black rose symbolizes death. Ugh. When would you send that to someone?
If you know of additional meanings or can add something of interest to the topic please leave a comment. |

| Encorez, my budget is tight so I go to Safeway where I can get a dozen red roses for ten bucks. I buy some babys breath for a dollar or two though they usually give it to me for free. I buy a vase for a buck or two. I arrange it myself. A dozen roses from a florist, including delivery, runs about $50 in my area. I deliver them myself but my total cost is about $13 or so. When I want to surprise her (we teach at the same school), I have the secretary open her office when she is teaching and I put them on her desk :) I can also go to her house when she is not home and put them where she will see them when she first gets home (though out of reach of her five flower-eating cats). |
