Product Description:
Get Big Sound
You don't need a big home theater system to experience big sound. Not when you've got the Pioneer VSX516K powering your movies, music, sports, and games. Even content from your PC or portable audio player sounds truly amazing played through this Pioneer receiver, thanks to Pioneer's new "Sound Retriever" processing. Experience 100 watts across seven channels for a full-blown surround sound that fills your living room. Configure it to a smaller 5.1 system, and you can still get big-time sound immersion by configuring the two extra surround-back amps for extra up-front wattage (bi-amp speakers required). Either way, your entertainment will envelop you in one of nine advanced surround modes.
Start Your Engines
Just like the heart of a race car is its engine, the heart of your AV receiver is its engine. And, as any mechanic will tell you, "Your need a new air filter because yours is dirty. Oh, and by the way, your PVC valve is rusted, and you may want to consider replacing your blinker fluid." Lucky for us, in this case the digital engine is the microprocessor used to house the various decoders (Dolby and DTS) and DSP sound processing features of the receiver. High capacity and speed are always a good thing. And there are no air filters, PVC valves, or blinkers. But there are superior-quality chips, power supplies, and other materials. The digital engine in the VSX516K incorporates all digital signal processing into one powerful, compact circuit board, shortening the signal path and minimizing radiation. Its Freescale 180MIPS Processing DSP chip offers low jitter, a super-accurate PLL sound-processing clocking module, and virtually no audio degradation for exceptionally pure sound. Plus, this processors's low impedance stabilizes power throughout the chip, preventing internal noise that can affect signal purity. The VSX516K handles Dolby Digital 5.1, Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Pro-Logic II, DTS 5.1, DTS-ES Discrete 6.1, DTS 96/24, DTS Neo:6, and WMA9 Pro. What this means for you is the decoding and signal processing capabilities in this receiver ensure you will be treated to the highest-quality sound reproduction. And you won't ever have to change an air filter.
Get Improved Sound
Pioneer wants to make sure that you not only have a screaming digital engine, you also have some features to make the most of the decoded signal. For examples, they've included their own proprietary Sound Retriever technology in the VSX516K, which is designed to improve the overall sound quality of compressed audio formats such as MP3, WMA, and AAC. While compressed formats are used mostly for audio that will be heard through headphones, the popularity of portable music players (such as iPods or other MP3 players) is increasing, and many people want to play their personal music selection through their home theater system. But when these compressed formats are played through a multichannel system, dynamic range can be limited and digital artifacts caused by the compression process can be pronounced. Sound Retriever reintroduces the lost dynamic range and replaces lost digital information for near-CD quality sound reproduction of compressed content. Dialogue Enhancement is another feature Pioneer included in the VSX516K. Everyone hates it when they miss important parts of the movie because the dialogue is too soft to hear. With this feature, extra detail is added to the center channel so soft dialogue scenes are crisp and clear. No more backing up to decipher what you just missed!
Less Heat and Direct Construction
The main components of the VSX516K's Pioneer Hybrid Amplification system are built into a single integrated circuit, for perfect precision even when processing high-level current. Since heat influences the amount of bias an output transistor requires to reproduce sound, Pioneer engineered a special Thermal Compensation Transistor to maintain correct bias levels regardless of temperature, minimizing total harmonic distortion. To eliminate undesireable electrical influence, Direct Construction keeps critical circuitry separate (for example, digital from analog, and video from audio). Also, the positioning of key parts is carefully mapped out, to optimize signal transmission efficiency. Your sound stays crisper, cleaner, longer. Even when you play it louder.
Surround Yourself with Pristine Sound
In addition to the more traditional surround sound formats, the VSX515K offers Pioneer's exclusive DSP technology, which lets you experience movies and music as never before. Virtual Surround Back mode deepens and broadens the sound stage by creating a "phantom" rear surround effect without using a surround back speaker. 6-Channel Stereo mode simulates a regular stereo acoustic environment while using all your system's speakers to create Original Surround modes. For the most compelling entertainment possible, Advanced Theater DSP modes create various simulated sound stages depending on the room environment and applications (choose between Cinema, Music, TV, Game, and Sports).
Quality Connections
To enjoy cinema-quality sound from the VSX516K, just connect a Pioneer DVD player and suround system speakers and you're ready. For CD-R/RW, MD, and other recording media, this receiver has two digital coaxial inputs and 1 optical input. You also get two component video inputs to maintain the signal integrity from such digital sources as DVD and DTV.
