This is about 2 years old, but you can still update the maps free from garmin for a year when you first register the device there. Very good budget GPS definitely better than the 200/250 series

The maps loaded are 2008. This unit is not supported by Garmin and they will not upgrade the maps for free. You may however purchase new maps and receive product updates

Updated software for the Nuvi 660 can be found here: http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=010-00540-00. That is just the software and NOT the maps.
