Great timing! I just started testing Sharepoint Server for my work's corporate knowledge base.

You can try it out using Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 (free):

All of the complaints are about the documentation which apparently is totally lacking in useful content. Regardless free is awesome especially if you know how to work Google.
