Agreed. Tempted to buy until I've read the reviews. Not sure I want to put 1TB of stuff on it.

Ok. Change my mind. Maybe I'll give it a try after reading Amazon reviews. Like one reviewer pointed out, a firmware update may solve all the issues people been complaining.

The firmware problem with these drives was fixed shortly after it was discovered - about a year and a half ago! Drives shipped since around Jan - Feb 2009 already have the new firmware. I have 5 of the 1.5TB model purchased from 2/2009, and have had no problems whatsoever, but we'll still be hearing about bad Seagate drives for the next 20 years.

And what makes it really criminal is that the rebate company, Worldwide Rebates, is owned by the same parent company as TigerDirect - the evil empire known as Systemax. TD rebates used to be handled (ignored) by OnRebate.com, which appears to have vanished. It was *also* a Systemax company.
