i have the old version and i use it everyday for for son to watch movies but its hook up to hard drive with movies...think this new one you can connect through network and just play movies off the comp

I have both the WDTV and the WDTV Live. Both are wonderful devices. HDMI and 2 USB inputs. The LIVE can connect to network shares via ethernet natively, or you can attach a wireless usb adapter (this I have not done since I use powerline adapters).

I highly recommend this unit!
